John D. McCallum, III, MD
Physician-In-Chief
Dr. McCallum, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, specializes in hip and knee problems including arthritic and sports related injuries. He has been an innovator of hip and knee arthroscopic surgery, salvage and reconstructive techniques, including minimally invasive treatments.

Thomas Mangano, MHS, MBA, PA-C
Vice President
Tom performed his undergraduate training at Quinnipiac University, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2006. Upon completion of this degree, he received his MHS from Quinnipiac in 2008. After graduation, Tom worked as a physician assistant in the emergency department at The Hospital of Central Connecticut from 2008 to 2013.
Tom played a key role in the launch and growth of COI at MidState Medical Center in 2017, first as Lead PA and later as Director of Operations. In that role, he helped drive operational efficiency, elevate quality, and enhance patient experience—contributions that have been central to COI’s success.
As Vice President, Tom oversees COI operations across both the Central and Fairfield regions and serves as the primary liaison for the surgeons practicing in those areas.

Gerard J. Girasole, MD
Medical Co-Director, St. Vincent's Medical Center
Dr. Girasole, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, has extensive experience in the treatment of lumbar disc disease, neck pain, scoliosis, herniated discs and spinal stenosis in both operative and non-operative techniques. He is on the forefront of minimally-invasive surgical techniques for patients with low back pain and he is very active in the training of other surgeons in the various techniques. He is also actively involved in computer-assisted robotic spine surgery.

Curtis L. Campbell, MD, FAAOS
Associate Medical Director, St. Vincent's Medical Center
Dr. Campbell, is a board-certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. He is additionally certified in Mako Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement Surgery. He performs direct anterior approach hip replacement as well as partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, and complex revision hip and knee surgery. Dr. Campbell uses the most up-to-date technologies and surgical advances, including computer navigation and robotic assisted surgery, to provide exceptional care for his patients. Dr. Campbell is also the physician supervisor for the Orthopaedic Physician Assistants at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Dr. Campbell graduated from Fairfield University. He then completed master’s degrees in Evaluative Clinical Sciences from Dartmouth College and Biologic/Medical Sciences from Drexel University. This provided him with an excellent skill set for a career in medicine. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. This training emphasized treating the whole patient and providing compassionate care to everyone. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Rutgers University-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ where he received excellent, well-rounded training involving all aspects of orthopaedics. Dr. Campbell pursued advanced training as an Adult Total Joint Reconstruction Fellow at Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and he holds a Clinical Assistant Professor position at The Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

Glenn Russo, MD
Medical Director, MidState Medical Center
Dr. Russo is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and practices as a spine specialist at Connecticut Orthopaedics. Born and raised in Connecticut, he graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He then performed his post-graduate training in orthopaedic surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine where he was selected for induction into the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Forum. Afterwards, Dr. Russo completed his fellowship in spinal surgery at the renowned Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Russo enjoys all aspects of spine care and has particular expertise in adult and pediatric spinal disorders, minimally invasive spinal surgery, complex spinal deformity, and spinal trauma. He finds great fulfillment in volunteerism and has participated for years in overseas mission work with the organization World Spine Outreach.
He serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University where he trains medical students and residents. He also works with athletes in his role as a team physician for Quinnipiac University.
Dr. Russo sits on the Editorial Review Board for The Journal of Clinical Spine Surgery, has published numerous research articles, and has contributed to a number of textbooks. His research has been presented on both national and international forums.

Adam Ferguson, DO
Associate Medical Director, MidState Medical Center
Dr. Ferguson is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle problems, lower extremity trauma, and total ankle replacement. He expertly handles both surgical and non‑operative care, employing advanced, minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Ferguson is an active proponent of robotic-assisted surgery, leveraging Mako robotic-arm technology to enhance precision in joint replacements.
At COI, Dr. Ferguson helps lead strategic development and clinical excellence across orthopaedic services.
Dr. Ferguson earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Touro University Nevada, and completed his orthopaedic residency at Michigan State University/St. John Providence Health System. He pursued a fellowship in Foot & Ankle Surgery and Total Ankle Arthroplasty at the University of Pennsylvania. He achieved board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery that same year.
He practices across multiple Connecticut locations—including Wallingford, Meriden, Southington, and Cheshire—through Comprehensive Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Care and Hartford HealthCare.

Theresa Bowling, MD
Director of Anesthesia, St. Vincent's Medical Center
Dr. Bowling is a board-certified anesthesiologist with more than 20 years of experience. She graduated from Hofstra University magna cum laude, attended medical school at the State University of New York at Syracuse, and was Chief Resident when she completed her anesthesia residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1995.
Dr. Bowling practiced for 20 years in Stamford, CT, where her roles included Medical Director, Director of Acute Pain Management, Chairman of the Credentialing Committee, and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Bowling is a nationally recognized leader in Regional Anesthesia training, acute pain management program development and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery program implementation. She is also the President and Founder of Stamford School of Regional Anesthesia, a leading provider of training for Regional Anesthesia in the techniques of ultrasound guided nerve blocks and Regional Anesthesia program development in the context of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery.
In 2017, Dr. Bowling joined Integrated Anesthesia Associates to lead the acute pain management service at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. In 2019, she was appointed the Director of Anesthesia at COI.

Dr. Denisa Lujic, MD MBA
Director of Anesthesia, MidState Medical Center
Dr. Lujic is a board-certified anesthesiologist. She graduated from Lehigh University with a BA in neurobiology and a minor in philosophy. She then went on to St. Georges School of Medicine earning her Doctorate of Medicine. She completed her residency in anesthesiology from the University of Connecticut where she served as chief resident and received the David B. Little award. Following her residency, she continued her education at the University of New Haven, where she received her MBA.
